This year, the season highlight will take place the weekend of June 9, as the club will be celebrating its 30 year in existence, as it was started back in 1983. This season will include 23 time trials, 10 Cyclo cross races, 24 mountain bike races, 5 duathlons, 1 triathlon, 2 hill climbs and 20 massed start road events. Rides with the club’s coaches will begin in June, and will take place during 10 weekly sessions.- Advertisement – Winter turbo training will continue twice a week until the end of March. The Northern B.C. Sport Equipment Grant program is a one-time, localized investment designed to support athlete and coach development within northern B.C. leading up to the 2015 Canada Winter Games, taking place in Prince George.The grant is being funded by the Province of British Columbia and has been developed with viaSport.Applications were accepted from local sport organizations or clubs, as well as Aboriginal bands or associations.- Advertisement -On Monday, Fort St. John City Council voted unanimously to send a letter of support to viaSport on behalf of the Elks Speed Skating Club, stating that the cause complies with the city’s strategic goals of a safe, healthy, active and family-friendly community.Organizations that applied for this grant will receive word of approval by March 30, 2013.
