Huskies not taking Vipers lightly heading into home opener

first_imgThe next home game after tonight is slated for October 16 at 8 p.m. against the Beaverlodge Blades. The Fort St. John Huskies will welcome the Sexsmith Vipers to the North Peace Arena tonight for their home opener. Both teams enter the game with records of 1-0 but the Vipers confidence will be high coming off of an upset win over the defending league champions, the North Peace Navigators.Assistant coach Todd Alexander said despite the track record of the Vipers in years past the team will not be taking anything for granted when the puck drops at 8 p.m.“I don’t think we take anybody lightly. We always prepare every game to play the game that we’re in and the rest will take care of itself. That’s why you’ve got to play the games. We played them once in exhibition and it was a bit of a football style of hockey game where it was 9-7 so we know they’ve got a lot of offensive punch,” he said.- Advertisement -The Huskies will get a big boost on their blue line this weekend as veteran defenceman Jarod Lang will be in the lineup.“Langer is a guy that knows our system. He’s an intelligent player. We always look forward to having him. He’s definitely the type of player that plays with his head in the game and we’re really excited to have him this weekend. It will be a big boost for sure,” Alexander said. After tonight the Huskies will have a quick turnaround with another game tomorrow, this time on the road in Clairmont against the County of Grande Prairie JDA Kings.Advertisementlast_img read more
