first_imgInteractive Bracket | Game NotesINDIANAPOLIS – Fresh off a run to its first Southland Conference championship, the Abilene Christian soccer team will face Big 12 regular-season champion Baylor in the first round of the NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Championship at 7:30 p.m. CT Saturday in Waco, Texas. Sophomore Christina Arteaga, whose brace in the conference title match pushed ACU to a 3-1 victory over Stephen F. Austin, leads the team in shots (79), points (24) and goals (10) this season. She was named first team all-conference and landed on the all-tournament team. In their second full year of eligibility in the Southland Conference, the Wildcats tied a league record for single-season shutouts (13) and rank top-10 in the nation in goals-against-average (.502) and shutout percentage (.619). The Lady Bears (17-5) had a 10-match win streak snapped in the Big 12 Championship match, falling 3-0 to West Virginia. Juniors Shay Johnson and Michelle Mulrooney also appeared on the all-conference first team and the all-tournament team, with Johnson earning conference tournament MVP honors. Johnson found the back of the net twice at the tournament, including the game-winner against UCA.center_img Beating BU at home will be a tall task as the Lady Bears outscored opponents 25-2 and finished with a perfect 10-0 mark at Betty Lou Mays Soccer Field, including a 2-0 triumph over ACU on Aug. 16. The Wildcats (15-5-1) are riding a seven-match win streak after three victories at last week’s 2018 Southland Conference Soccer Tournament, including an upset of regular-season champion and top-seed Central Arkansas in the semifinals.
