LAGUNA NIGUEL – Residents of an Orange County apartment complex were evacuated after the land under it shifted, authorities said. Structural engineers said the ground had begun moving on Thursday, and by Friday they determined that the 32 apartments were unsafe to inhabit. Sheriff’s deputies evacuated the residents, none of whom were injured, said Sheriff’s Lt. Dan Dwyer. Residents were given notice a week earlier that they had to move out of the complex within 30 days because of structural problems, but authorities decided that the problem was more urgent after a shift in a fault line about 45 feet below the surface. – The Associated Press last_img read more
